Frequently Asked Questions

Q. I am a little intimidated about coming in to train with guys who actually fight… are they just a bunch of bullies who are going to try and beat me up?
A. Absolutely not. Everyone that trains with THC understands that he/she is there to learn and improve their skills. We simply will not tolerate inappropriate behavior from our members.

Q. I have a job where I can’t really come in with a black eye or busted lip…do I have to spar or grapple live at all?
A. No. In fact, we have created special “No Strike MMA” classes for our members who like to train for the learning and fitness aspect but do not want to spar or grapple live. You can see those programs by visiting our
Membership options page.

Q. What should I wear to train in?
A. Shorts with a drawstring and a comfortable t-shirt are really all you will need. We train barefoot so shoes are not needed. If you are going to spar you will need to wear a protective cup and mouthpiece.

Although we have all the equipment you will need for sparring, you may want to consider purchasing your own equipment such as boxing gloves, MMA gloves, shin guards, headgear, etc.

Q. What can I expect for the training itself? What kinds of things do you guys do?
A. Because conditioning is so important we put a lot of emphasis on training both our aerobic and anaerobic systems. This means we do exercises that incorporate lots of short, explosive movements. We also try to mimic the conditions of a competition so we will go through a series of exercises that last in duration of 3-5 minutes each with a 30 second or 1 minute break in between.

You may know this type of exercising as “Circuit Training” or “Cycle Training” and what we do is similar except we incorporate MMA techniques into the mix as well as traditional exercises that use body weight, dumbbells, stabilizing balls, etc.

Q. I was thinking about putting my kid(s) into the Kids MMA class but I am worried about them learning how to punch and kick…
A. Our kids MMA classes are very different than the adult MMA class. Our kid’s classes are much more focused on fitness and having fun than learning how to do specific moves. What they are taught that is MMA specificis basic principles of balance, strength, and posture.

They are led through a very controlled, fun-filled training program that is designed to help them get and stay fit, build self-confidence, meet new friends, and most importantly, have fun.

Q. How often can I train?
A. You may participate as often or as little as you like based on which training program(s) you signed up for. Some of our members come 1-2 times per week and others come twice a day…it is up to you.

Q. If I sign a 3-, 6-, or 12-month agreement do I have to pay all of that money up front?
A. No. You can pay your tuition monthly if you so choose. If you do want to pay your tuition upfront we will discount your total by an additional 10%. Please be aware that the agreement you are signing says you will continue to pay the monthly tuition amount for the entire term of the agreement… whether you come to class or not.
